The original plan was to do a hike and surf trip. We would have hiked in, set up camp and then tried to maximize our wave count. The swells didn’t show up and so we left the boards in the car and went for the thru hike from Mattole River to Shelter Cove.
The lack of swells came with an unseasonably good spell of weather. We enjoyed a beautiful stroll on the beach and explored the rugged and wild part of California’s coast.
One among other highlights was the “night mission” into the tide pools of Big Flat (watch the video till the end).
